Staying Positive

It’s so easy to get wrapped up in this pandemic and dwell on everything taken away and made challenging during this time. We have been working hard trying to remain positive and focus on all the good things that have happened. It’s okay to feel alone. It’s okay to be confused. It’s okay to feel lucky. It’s okay to be happy. All emotions during this time are unique to each individual and have been times of greatness but also times of hurt. Respect everyone’s situation and how they are feeling. We will get through this. One step at a time…

For us, it’s cyclical. Some days are really good, things are moving, we see good times ahead. And then other days we’re stuck feeling hopeless, uncertain and we can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. Luckily, our bad days don’t happen as often and we try to get out of the rut by conversing about the possibilities and opportunities we DO have.

Cancelled Honeymoon
Tiring hours of work
Lacking time spent together
Lack of physical social connections
Challenge of teaching remotely
Suffering financial economy
Staying home

But we have…

Supportive friends + family
Had reflection time … a lot
Learned new teaching strategies
Connected with family and friends more than before
Found a church that aligned with our life
Job security
Designed things we “never had time for”
Gotten creative with date nights
Gotten funnier … I’m serious
Thought so hard, we made masks out of my dogs pee pads … yes, you read that right
Continued building our home
Stayed safe + healthy

We get through these times together. When Steven gets home from his third 13 hour work day in a row we laugh about how much toilet paper he delivered and the unnecessary dog strollers. That helps us. His hours aren’t going to change, what people buy is not going to change. Laughing about it helps. We are thankful he has a job and that business for him is doing well.

Our Immediate families are split up across the country in 5 different states // California, Nevada, Colorado, Texas and North Carolina. This happened before the pandemic and will be like this indefinitely. We never video called each other and now it’s a weekly thing. Something about the pandemic made us feel like we should and I’m so glad it did. My cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc are all in one giant group chat. My friends and I had a paint + pour over zoom. We all live all over the country but that was the first time we did that and it’s here to stay! We have communicated and connected with people more than ever.

We’ve had off work schedules for a while but the long days and tiresome hours are not making it any better. We started planning out our Sundays together the week prior so it gives us something to look forward to during the week. We have a date activity and cook our dinner on the smoker. Some of my favorite dates have come out of this and we will use them forever!

Take this time to do what’s necessary for you. We will get through this stronger than before.
